Urner Haute Route


🗺️ Ski Touring Itinerary : March 31-April 4

Day 1 – Realp → Albert Heim Hut (2’543 m)

📍 Meeting point: Realp | 🕛 12:00 noon

  • Gear check, avalanche transceiver check, and trip briefing.

  • Ski touring starts after the checks. Please have eaten before arrival.

🎿 Ski tour to Albert Heim Hut

  • Classic ski touring ascent, allowing time to settle and review plans.

Optional afternoon ski tour

  • If weather, timing, and group energy allow, a short tour near the hut can be added.

🏠 Overnight at Albert Heim Hut.


Day 2 – Albert Heim Hut → Goscheneralp Guesthouse

  • Alpine traverse including sections of technical climbing and northerly ski terrain above Goscheneralp Lake.

  • Arrival at Goscheneralp Guesthouse, a lodge with great food and comfort.

🏠 Overnight at Goscheneralp Guesthouse.


Day 3 – Goschneralp Guesthouse → Voralp Hut

🚜 Morning skidoo shuttle to the dam

🎿 Long alpine ascent followed by a beautiful descent to the Voralp area.

🏠 Overnight at Voralp Hut.


Day 4 – Voralp Hut → Steingletscher via Sustenhorn (3’503 m)

🏔️ Main summit day

  • Glaciated ascent to Sustenhorn (3’503 m)

  • Long, spectacular glacier descent toward Steingletscher

🏠 Overnight at the Alpin Center Sustenpass, with double rooms for everyone.


Day 5 – Steingletscher → Engelberg via Fünfingerstock & Grassen Bivouac

🎿 High alpine traverse via Fünfingerstock and Grassen Pass

  • Complex terrain and one of the most spectacular descents in the Alps, finishing in Engelberg.

🎉 End of ski tour in Engelberg. Private shuttle home organized to Le Châble or Lucerne.


🚐 Logistics

  • Meet in Realp by train. Group meets at noon; guests come from different locations.

  • Return shuttle not included in the price to allow flexible planning.

  • Luggage transport from Andermatt to Engelberg not managed by organizer; can be arranged independently via SBB door-to-door luggage service: SBB luggage

Avalanche Safety

  • Avalanche transceiver (digital, 3-antenna)

  • Shovel (metal blade)

  • Probe (≥ 240 cm)

Ski Touring Equipment

  • Touring skis & bindings

  • Ski touring boots (well broken-in)

  • Climbing skins

  • Ski poles (adjustable)

  • Ski crampons (if needed)

  • Backpack (30–40 L, ski carry compatible)

Mountaineering Equipment

  • Harness

  • 2 locking carabiners

  • 1–2 slings (120 cm)

  • Ice axe

  • Crampons (compatible with boots)

  • Helmet (recommended)

Clothing

  • Base layers, mid-layer, insulating jacket

  • Softshell/hardshell jacket & pants

  • Gloves: liner + warm gloves

  • Hat & buff/neck gaiter

  • No refunds once deposit is paid (we operate in high-alpine terrain and secure accommodation in advance).

  • Trip canceled by guide/operator: Full refund of all payments.

Travel & Mountain Insurance

  • All participants must have personal travel and mountain rescue insurance to cover accidents, evacuation, or lost/damaged equipment.
